Everton and Liverpool set for Premier League referee changes after triple retirement

The Premier League has announced four new officials for the upcoming 2022/23 season. It comes after Mike Dean, Jonathan Moss and Martin Atkinson all retired from refereeing following the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Referee Tom Bramall, as well as assistant referees Natalie Aspinall, Nick Greenhalgh and Steve Meredith, will now join the Select Group 1.

Bramall has been officiating in the Football League since 2014 and last season took charge of 33 matches, showing a total of 105 yellow cards and six red cards. He is the fifth referee to be promoted to the Premier League in the past two seasons.

Aspinall is the third female official to make it the Premier League and joins Sian Massey-Ellis MBE in the top flight. She boasts extensive experience both domestically and internationally, including at the Women’s World Cup.

Greenhalgh has more than 300 matches to his name as an assistant referee in the Football League since 2008, while Meredith also makes the step from Select Group 2 and after being given a taste of Premier League action on the final day of last season when he acted as an assistant referee when Brighton & Hove Albion hosted West Ham United..

Moss and Atkinson, meanwhile, will take up Select Group 1 manager and coach roles respectively for the new season, following their retirements, training referees and evaluating performances.
