Deciphering the mattress market in the search for sound slumber is no easy task.
From Emma to Simba, Dreams to Ikea, there are brands aplenty offering varying models, from pocket sprung to memory foam. It’s certainly hard to know which to choose. But Eve Sleep is making it simpler with its adaptable solution.
A one-of-a-kind design, the Wunderflip Premium Hybrid Sleep Mattress is an innovative adaptable hybrid mattress that allows you to change the firmness simply by flipping it over – without compromising on memory foam softness. So, naturally, we couldn’t wait to try it.

Delivery
As with many of the well-known online-order mattress brands, the Wunderflip arrived rolled-up and vacuum-packed so you can easily move it to the required room even if you’ve got stairs to manoeuvre – no need to ‘pivot’ here.
Once unrolled, it’s best to leave it for 24 to 48 hours for it to fully expand. If you’re in a rush, though, it’s possible to sleep on it in as little as six hours. Then, all that’s left to do is dress it with your favourite bedding set and you’re good to go.
Ease of use
Once inflated, you’ll notice the nifty labels attached to the side showing which side is firmer and which is softer. To switch between the two, you simply zip off the top comfort layer, flip the base, and reattach it to the other side. Since a double mattress weighs 55kg, it’s a tricky task to do solo, but it takes a matter of moments if there’s someone to help.
Comfort
As there are two levels of firmness to choose between, this may just be the most versatile mattress on the market. Not only does it give you a chance to work out the level of firmness that suits you but you can switch it up depending on whether you are looking for additional support (say, after a heavy gym session) or if you and your partner simply can’t agree. We tried a week on each side before we landed on ‘firmer’ as our favourite. Though the general feel is described as medium-firm, for us it felt more like a medium-soft, with the ‘firmer’ side feeling like a true medium.
Thanks to its hybrid credentials, it boasts 2500 springs as well as two layers of memory foam for a super spongy finish that’s still supportive – and that’s before you get to the extra foam layers, reinforced edges and deep quilted topper.
In general, side sleepers will prefer to err on the side of soft because it’s more comfortable on their shoulders and hips, whereas back and front sleepers would rather feel more supported. However, as a side sleeper myself, I felt the ‘firmer’ side of the Wunderflip delivered the perfect balance of the two.
Breathability
A common problem with memory foam is its density and lack of breathability – especially when it comes to the warmer months. Eve Sleep’s foam, though, is five times more breathable than usual thanks to its open cell structure – and that is apparent as soon as you lay your head on it.
It’s even been upgraded with seven drill zones (little holes that allow the foam to adapt to your body and encourage airflow) so you get the super soft perks without any uncomfortably hot nights spent tossing and turning.
Sleep quality
Mattresses with springs tend to feel bouncy, so it can be tricky to get a good night’s kip if you’ve got someone wriggling around next to you. The good news? In the Wunderflip, one layer of springs contains breathable fabric pockets which help to reduce disturbances so your movements feel isolated, instead.
The memory foam doubles down on movement isolation, too, so a restful sleep is on the cards even if your partner is distinctly restless. If you’re someone who sleeps lightly, though, we’d always recommend upping the size of the bed if space allows.
Price and warranty
At £749 for a premium double mattress that’s essentially two for the price of one, the Wunderflip Premium Hybrid is one of the more affordable quality mattresses on the market. And right now’s the time to invest since it’s down to £449 for a limited time only. You’ve got 200 sleeps to decide it's up to scratch – and if you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund.
If you do choose to keep it – which we’re sure you will – it comes with a 10-year warranty meaning you're covered across performance issues, faulty manufacture, as well as splits and cracks.
Verdict
All in all, we love the versatility of the Wunderflip. The Goldilocks of mattresses, it will deliver a sound sleep for back sleepers, front sleepers, and side sleepers as well as those who like memory foam and those who like springs – and you can’t say that for many designs.
For us though, the flipping feature feels a little redundant. Now we’ve landed on the more supportive side as a firm favourite, we can’t see ourselves swapping back to the soft side any time soon.

Pros: suits all sleep postures, adaptable layer to change from firm to soft
Cons: feels a little soft if you prefer a firm feel
Eve Sleep’s latest release is a new take on their premium hybrid mattress. This time, it boasts changeable firmness. Simply zip off the top comfort layer, flip the base, reattach the top, and you’ll go from firm to soft in no time – or vice versa.
It’s still a hybrid - with two layers of springs and two layers of memory foam, meaning it delivers both support and comfort. The 28cm depth speaks for itself. Better yet, the brand’s trademark memory foam is five times more breathable than standard so you don’t overheat and the springs are surrounded by fabric pockets so there’s effective movement isolation too.
Thanks to the adaptable layer, it’s one of the most versatile options on the market. The soft side is aimed at side sleepers while the firmer is designed for back or front sleepers. If you’re not someone who needs as much support, perhaps the lighter hybrid mattress would be more your speed – and it comes in at a much cheaper RRP.
