Fans had "high hopes" as Sam Ryder performed for the UK on Eurovision tonight.
He was the 22nd act to appear on the European singing show as he performed his song Space Man at the finals in Turin, Italy. The singer-songwriter had made a name for himself on TikTok through his covers of major hits, as well as his own original music.
His popularity began to grow on the app during the early stages of the pandemic in 2020 and has since garnered millions of views on his videos. He has amassed 100.7m likes on TikTok and has 12.3m followers.

While watching the Essex-born singer perform tonight, fans took to Twitter to exclaim how proud of him they were. They said his act was "unbelievable" and have the country "very high hopes" for being crowned this years winners.
Maria said: "Hope @SamRyderMusic wins us this year for UK #Eurovision. I have very high hopes this year come on lad." Ferdie said: "UK can be proud of Sam Ryder. Sam deserves win or Top 5 at least #Eurovision. Best UK song since Jade Eden (and Andrew Lloyd Webber/Diana Warren)"
