Rivers are drying up across Europe as the continent goes through another sweltering heatwave.
There has not been significant rainfall in western Europe this summer which is leading to drought in many countries.
A drought has officially been declared in the UK as the Thames River’s source dries up. Other large rivers including The Rhine, The Po in Italy, The Loire in France and The Gaudiana in Spain are also running low.

The low level of The Rhine River is causing issues for cargo ships which may not be able to pass through some sections this weekend. At the moment, boats are passing some parts of the river with just 40cm of water below them.
In France the electricity utility company EDF has had to reduce output because there is not enough river water to cool some of its power plants.
The dropping level of The Elbe River in the Czech Republic has revealed “hunger stones”, boulders inscribed with ominous messages warning of famine.
