People of colour could be paying at least £250 more per year in car insurance, an investigation has found. Citizens Advice spent a year analysing data, which it has now published.
The charity said it had found a "shocking trend" of those from ethnic minorities paying considerably more each year for their cover compared to white people. It looked at 18,000 premiums reported by people in England and Wales who came to Citizens Advice for debt help last year, reports the Mirror.
The findings concluded that, regardless of gender, age or income, those from ethnic backgrounds paid £250 a year on average more. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) said insurers never use ethnicity as a factor when setting prices but it recognises the charity's report "raises an important public policy debate".
