Escape to the Chateau fans were gutted after the Strawbridge family issued an emotional announcement.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have won over the hearts of the nation with their popular Channel 4 programme, which documents their efforts to renovate a French chateau. The couple share the luxury home with their two children and celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary last year.

Viewers were thrilled as the ninth season of the show returned in October. The show's Christmas Extravaganza will air tonight and the family took to Facebook to reveal it will be the final episode.
