Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel Strawbridge have been slammed by those allegedly working close to the couple.
It comes just days after Channel 4 told the Mirror that they had decided to part ways with the couple "following a review" after years of working together.
The production company behind their hit series and its several spin-offs also confirmed that they had decided to part ways, although the nature of the grievances had not been made public.
Now sources have claimed, despite their on-screen persona being bubbly, they are allegedly far from this behind the scenes away from the glare of viewers.
It's claimed that Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, often masked their true personality and clashed with producers working on their programmes.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: "Dick and Angel come across on screen as the most gorgeous and lovely couple, literally like butter wouldn't melt, but they're not like that off-screen.
"It's a full-on show, production is with them at the chateau for weeks so they can't hide their real characters – they can't turn it on for two hours of recording and then not go back to their real persona.
"They're just spiky and volatile people and, as you can imagine, that's a nightmare to work with."
A representative for Channel 4 told the Mirror: "Following a review we have taken the decision to not work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future."
Two Rivers Media confirmed to Mirror that they also have cut ties and will no longer be working with the couple.
"We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment," a representative for the production company told the Mirror.
Channel 4 had launched an investigation after Two Rivers Media allegedly raised concerns about the couple.
The investigation involved producers and crew who have worked with the couple as they renovated their 19th-century Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France, being interviewed.
The findings of the independent investigation are yet to be released.
Series nine of Escape to the Chateau aired in December 2022 and brought in over 2.5 million viewers
Despite the show coming to an end, a host of spin-off programmes were in production including Escape to the Chateau: Secret France.
Filming on this new series has wrapped and is currently in post-production although it is not yet clear whether the series will air.
The Mirror approached Dick and Angel's representatives for comment.
