Erling Haaland reveals "biggest dream" in sharp response to critics after Man City winner

Erling Haaland hailed his stunning acrobatic winner for Manchester City against former club Borussia Dortmund as one of the best of his career.

Haaland took his goal tally to 13 in eight games for City, with his 84th-minute winner in Wednesday's 2-1 win, following his £51million summer move from Dortmund. It was the sixth successive game in which Haaland has scored for Pep Guardiola's side, with the 22-year-old striker admitting it was more special because of the opposition.

“This is one of my best goals ever, to be honest," said Haaland. "I'm flexible, that is something that I work on and it turned out good. It was a special goal, I have to say.

“I scored a similar goal for Dortmund against Wolfsburg and I've been trying this in the last few games I have played for City and finally it worked, so it was nice.

“I think I have really long legs, so that's how I reached the ball! It was a really good cross and in the end it was a really good goal, I have to say.

“My job is to score goals, be in the box and wait for the right moment. I have to be focused throughout the whole game and that's my job. My chance came and I took it.”

Asked if he surprises himself with his goalscoring exploits, Haaland, who has now scored 26 times in 21 Champions League games, said: “It's a good question, but I really don’t think too much about it.

“Now I am just thinking about playing Wolves on Saturday, because that is how my brain has to be.

How many goals will Haaland score in all competitions this season? Have your say in the comments below.

“I have to focus on the next game and I have to focus on the right things. If I think too much, then I don’t think it is a good thing. It's about focusing on the right things.

“For me, it was easy to stay focused, as I always do. People might say I don’t touch the ball enough and this and that, but I don’t care about this. I know what I am going to do and what I have to do.

“That's exactly what I did in a difficult match and exactly what I will keep doing. My dream is to touch the ball five times and score five goals. That's my biggest dream.

“It was a special match for me to play Dortmund. It was emotional and I have a lot of good friends with the coaches, staff and everyone I know.

“I had to be focused, be ready for the things that I have to do against my former team. At the end, it's just a football game, but for me it was a bit more special.

“It was emotional, but it was a nice game. It was strange, but it was nice. I will always love everyone there and it's an amazing club. I had a good time there.”
