Erik ten Hag transfer lists Man Utd duo involved in training ground fight

Alex Telles and Hannibal Mejbri will both be moved on by Manchester United this summer – a year after they were involved in a training ground brawl.

United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to oversee a squad clearout this summer. Club captain Harry Maguire, long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea, combative midfielder Fred and Anthony Martial are among the highest profile players who the club will seek to shift this window.

Ten Hag is desperate to raise transfer funds and ease United’s wage bill to allow him to make multiple additions to his squad. He wants to reduce the quantity in the club’s bloated squad while increasing the quality and raising the standard for starting places in his side.

Telles and Hannibal were involved in a training ground bust-up last May, just before United boss Ten Hag assumed the Old Trafford hot seat. The in-house fall-out came in the aftermath of United's humiliating 4-0 defeat away at Brighton at the tail-end of last term when morale was at its lowest under then interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Even though Ten Hag was not in the dugout at that point, he was informed of the situation and how Rangnick was so displeased with the incident that he ended that particular training session prematurely.

Telles moved to Sevilla on a season-long loan deal but the Spanish club will not sign the player permanently this summer. United will look to find another willing buyer for the Brazilian, who joined from Porto in 2020.

The left-back made 38 appearances for the Andalusian side across all competitions last term including a starting berth in the Europa League final win over Roma. Yet he started just 15 La Liga matches and there is no demand to sign him permanently.

Hannibal spent the season in the Championship at Birmingham City, where he netted once across 41 appearances – of which 23 were from the start. Now aged 20, United will look to move on the midfielder permanently this summer.

Hannibal has been capped 24 times for the Tunisian senior side at international level. He joined United from Monaco in 2019 having been tracked by the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. He made three senior appearances for United, including from the start of the final match of the 2021/22 campaign – a defeat at Crystal Palace.
