It quickly became clear that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag had no qualms about turning to his former club, Ajax, in a bid to strengthen his new squad in the summer.
Ten Hag has raided his old club twice since departing Amsterdam: First, Lisandro Martinez was prised away from the Dutch champions for £57million before a deal that could eclipse £85m was eventually struck for Brazilian winger Antony.
Ajax dug their heels in over the latter, but Antony was always Ten Hag's primary target once it became clear that United were in need of attacking reinforcements, with the Dutchman determined to land the forward who fired the Eredivisie giants to a third title in four years last term.
