Erik ten Hag believes there is more to come from Fred at Manchester United after praising the energy the Brazilian offers in his midfield.
The 29-year-old has started all three pre-season friendlies on the club's tour of Thailand and Australia, playing in the deepest midfield role and collecting possession from the defence.
Ten Hag described Fred as playing in midfield as a "connector", a similar term he has used to describe Frenkie de Jong, with United still keen to sign the 25-year-old from Barcelona.

But Ten Hag has suggested he could look to mould someone from his squad to fill that role if a deal for De Jong can't be completed and he's been pleased with Fred's performances so far.
The Dutchman also hailed Fred's attitude and praised the way he can lift teammates as a result.
"In the moment he is playing in the role as connecter, defending to offence. He is playing the role quite well. I am satisfied with his performance, with his improvement," said Ten Hag. "I think he can even be better. I will support him in that. He also brings energy in the team by his attitude."
United have been impressive in pre-season so far, scoring 11 goals in beating Liverpool in Bangkok and Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in Melbourne.
The tour concludes with a game against Aston Villa at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Saturday and Ten Hag is again hoping to see his team build on the slick attacking play they have displayed so far.
"We have the intention to play brilliant football, only one thing, we have an opponent every time – and they don’t cooperate," he said.
"So first it’s about our philosophy, we want to play proactive football, attacking football, I know the opponent for tomorrow will be tough – it is great test. In that sense Perth is really lucky."
