However, he arrives at Old Trafford with the overhaul already underway with a number of high-profile boardroom departures as well as a reshuffle amongst the playing squad.

United's second-place finish in the Premier League saw them qualify for the elite European competition but the 52-year-old will be watching on against Crystal Palace as the Reds need to match or better West Ham's result to avoid slipping into the Europa Conference League place.

Patrice Evra has called out former Manchester United teammates for their absence in the club’s charity game loss to Liverpool.
Heroes and legends took to the Old Trafford turf to face former foes in Saturday’s match that raised £1.3million for the Manchester United Foundation. The likes of Gary Neville, Jaap Stam and Dimitar Berbatov were on show, but they couldn’t prevent their side falling to a 3-1 defeat.
A number of players scheduled to appear in the match had to withdraw. Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke couldn’t make it while Diego Forlan’s flight over to England got cancelled meaning he also missed out.
