Erik ten Hag criticises Manchester United players as Lisandro Martinez explains celebration

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines on Sunday, January 22.

Ten Hag criticises United players after Arsenal defeat

Erik ten Hag berated the Manchester United players after their late defeat to Arsenal and ordered them to change their mentality.

Eddie Nketiah pounced in the 90th minute to secure a vital 3-2 victory for Arsenal as United conceded in stoppage-time for the second game running. Ten Hag was unhappy with United's defending for all three goals and accused the players of lacking the discipline to secure a point at the Emirates Stadium.

"Maybe in the next couple of hours we realise we are in a good position, realise we are in a good development, a good process, but at this moment I am annoyed," Ten Hag stressed. "I also told the players if you want to win trophies, titles, we have to change our mentality.

Martinez explains celebration after first United goal

Lisandro Martinez said it was a "dream" to score his first Manchester United goal, but the central defender was disappointed his side slumped to defeat at Arsenal.

Martinez made it 2-2 in the second half but Eddie Nketiah netted a last-minute winner to give the Gunners all three points and condemn United to a first defeat in 11 games. Marcus Rashford had initially given United the lead before goals from Nketiah and Bukayo Saka. Martinez then stooped to head in a corner to level the scores in what was an entertaining and high-quality game.

He told MUTV: "It’s a dream to score my first goal for Manchester United, I’m really happy for that. In the end, it was not the result I wanted, but we have to keep going.
