Erik ten Hag confirms Manchester United triple injury blow ahead of Leeds United clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial, Antony and Scott McTominay will all be absent for his side's visit to Elland Road to take on Leeds United this Sunday.

Leeds will take on Man United for the second time in four days this weekend after the two sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. A sensational strike from Willy Gnonto opened the scoring after just 55 seconds, before a Raphael Varane own goal doubled the Whites' lead early on in the second-half.

Man United hit back with goals from Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho as the points were shared between the two rivals. Leeds will be hoping they can go one step further in front of their home crowd, with the Elland Road faithful looking to roar their side on to victory.

And the home advantage may not be the only thing Leeds can look to benefit from after Ten Hag confirmed that they will be without a trio of first-team stars on Sunday afternoon. Martial has suffered a hip injury, Antony has a leg problem and McTominay has been absent for Man United's last three games with an unspecified injury.

“I don’t expect [Martial, Antony and McTominay to be fit]," Ten Hag told reporters during his pre-match press conference. "We have some days obviously, but I don't expect it. If I can oversee it from now, I don't see any new problems coming up.”

The Dutchman went on to suggest that the hectic schedule of the Premier League, although not entirely to blame, has played its part on his side's fitness struggles.

“With the injuries, if you see Christian Eriksen [who is out with a long-term ankle injury], you can't see that as an impact from the tough season, but it definitely is a tough season with the World Cup in between and a lot of overload for the players,” he added.

“That process is already longer term, going on that the load on the players is too much.”

Elsewhere, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a still doubt with illness, Casemiro will serve the second of his three-match suspension and Donny van de Beek is also ruled out with a long-term injury.
