Erik ten Hag aims criticism at Man Utd players ahead of cut throat summer changes

Erik ten Hag underlined his frustration that Manchester United couldn't "kill off the game" as they edged Bournemouth.

The Red Devils picked up a 1-0 win on the south coast with Casemiro scoring the match winner within the opening 10 minutes. That proved to be the only goal of the game as United failed to build on their early lead - which meant the Cherries were always in the contest.

Scoring goals has been a problem throughout the campaign with United, by far, the lowest scorers in the top six. Their haul of 52 goals in someway behind Manchester City, who lead the league with 92 goals. Ten Hag appeared to bemoan their inability to make the game safe.

The Dutchman said after their victory: "The only criticism is we didn't kill off the game, we had to produce that second goal but that's the way this team are. It is not easy scoring goals."

It is not the first time Ten Hag has taken issue with United's ability in the final third. He said a similar sentence after he saw his side secure a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest just weeks ago. On that occasion he claimed: "[My] only criticism is the score has to be higher, 3-0 or 4-0. We missed a couple of chances. We want to kill the game early so it is always important, with so many chances you have to score."

That is why United stand to make changes in the summer with new personnel set to arrive at the Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford has been in sparkling form for much of the season and has registered his best campaign in front of goal with 29 strikes.

Behind him though there has been a lack of support with few of his team-mates regularly being potent in the final third. Bruno Fernandes is the only other man to hit double figures despite Ten Hag having the likes of Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho at his disposal.

Harry Kane is thought to be United's No 1 target with the player's future at Tottenham far from clear. He's about to enter the final 12 months of his deal and is still seeking the first trophy of his career. United appear to be in the ascendancy, but a prolific forward is still needed.

A potential alternative to Kane in Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who has just claimed Serie A success in Italy. The Nigerian has continued to find the net regularly and he - and his employers - could be tempted by a lucrative offer this summer.
