Erik ten Hag conceded that Manchester United played better once Cristiano Ronaldo had come off the bench during their opening day defeat by Brighton.
United were beaten 2-1 by the Seagulls at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as Ten Hag's era as manager started on a flat note. Many of the problems from the reigns of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick were evident, with Pascal Gross scoring twice in nine first-half minutes to put Brighton into the ascendancy.
The home team improved in the second half, with Marcus Rashford spurning a few good chances and Lisandro Martinez denied by a last-ditch Lewis Dunk block. They got on the score sheet after Robert Sanchez made a mess of a corner and Alexis Mac Allister scored a bizarre own goal from close range.
