Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy had his opening press conference with the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
As Bieniemy gets prepared to take on a new role with the Commanders as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, he reflected on the past 10 seasons spent in Kansas City. His first words as he spoke to the media in Washington were words of gratitude toward the organization and franchise that had been his home for the past decade.
“First off, let me say this,” Bieniemy began. “It was an amazing 10 years having an opportunity to work for the Chiefs organization. It goes without saying, I’d like to thank Clark Hunt and the whole entire Hunt family. I’d like to like Mark Donovan, our team president with the Kansas City Chiefs. Brett Veach and his staff, and of course, Coach Andy Reid.
“It’s been an amazing journey getting to this point and having the success that we’ve had over the years. But now it’s time for a new challenge and looking at these guys up front, Eric Bieniemy is fired up. He’s fired up and you guys will figure that out real soon.”
Bieniemy made it clear that he’s extraordinarily thankful for his time in Kansas City and for all that he learned during his time there. He indicated that his decision to move to a new role in Washington is about accepting a new challenge.
