NEW DELHI: The Indian equestrian team’s preparation for the upcoming Asian Games has hit a major roadblock owing to shortage of funds. The Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), which has been in the news for mostly the wrong reasons of late, has informed the country’s core probable riders selected to compete at the Asiad in Hangzhou that the association won’t be able to finance their training, equipment and exposure needs in Europe and elsewhere. The proposal to sanction funds for the same hasn’t yet been cleared by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
It’s been learnt that an amount totalling Rs eight crore has to be sanctioned by SAI towards the equestrian contingent’s preparation for the multisport event, scheduled to be held in China from September 23 to October 8. According to officials in SAI, the proposal is being examined at the highest level and the funds will be released shortly.
