AN area in Scotland famed across the world for its rugged natural beauty, iconic imagery such as the majestic stag roaming free, and playing host to legends of the screen including James Bond.
We are, of course, talking about South Lanarkshire.
At least, that’s what the script would say according to English football club Hartlepool FC.
The side has been roundly mocked on Twitter after the signing of 23-year-old Scottish winger Jake Hastie.
Posting a highlights reel on Twitter, Hartlepool FC wrote: "Highland to the Headland"

The "Highland" part of that statement is what’s provoked the laughter.
Law is signing to the side from Rangers, was born in South Lanarkshire’s Law near Wishaw, and is known for having come through Motherwell FC’s youth academy.
Motherwell is closer to Hartlepool than it is to Inverness – so the idea that he’s from the Highlands hasn’t exactly gone down well.
Social media took the club to task:
Will be interested to see how he adapts playing down in Sussex. https://t.co/LNJyMdLimT

What is it with clubs in the North-East of England and a complete lack of understanding of Scottish geography? https://t.co/iOUbnJ9kvv

The National recently produced a 16-page special edited by Lesley Riddoch on the Highlands and Islands after independence to mark Manniefest.
If anyone from Hartlepool FC would like a copy, as it sounds like this might be needed, please do get in touch.
