England win 2022 World Cup award but Roy Keane and Gary Neville uncover major issue

England may have exited the World Cup at the quarter-final stage but they didn't leave empty-handed as Argentina were crowned world champions. Although Premier League legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville were far from impressed.

Oliver Giroud's header ended the Three Lions' hopes of ending their wait for a major honour on the international stage as Gareth Southgate's side emerged as one of the contenders.

But it was the reigning champions who came out on top before going on and sealing their place in the showpiece match on Sunday. Didier Deschamps' side had to come from two goals down to send the game to extra time before the clash was settled from the spot as Lionel Messi reigned triumphant.

England's disappointing exit in the last 16 added to their recent woes after their European Championships final defeat before their tepid Nations League display. However, there was a minor consolation for the Three Lions as they won the Fair Play Award after picking up just one yellow card throughout the tournament.

Harry Maguire picked up the only booking in their five-game run in the Middle East as they towed the line against Iran, USA, Wales and Cameroon.

But the award left ITV pundits Gary Neville and Roy Keane unimpressed. The former Manchester United duo hinted that England's soft touch could have been their downfall.

Neville quipped: "We can’t applaud teams for getting too many yellow cards but one does seem a little bit too nice." Then, the outspoken Keane added: "You can be too nice in this game and England are too nice."
