Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have both been omitted from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, but Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is handed a maiden senior call-up.
Arsenal centre-back Ben White has also earned a recall for March fixtures against Switzerland and Ivory Coast following his stellar club form under Mikel Arteta, while Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker is left out.
White has impressed for the Gunners this season and pipped Tottenham’s Eric Dier for the friendlies at Wembley Stadium later this month.
Meanwhile, Rashford has paid the price for a period of sustained poor form at Manchester United.
Conor Gallagher, who made his senior England debut in the 10-0 thrashing of San Marino in November, has retained his place, reflecting his fine season on loan at Palace from Chelsea.
His Palace team-mate, Tyrick Mitchell, was also considered, with England assistant Steve Holland watching the left-back in the draw with Manchester City on Monday, but he has not made the cut.
Southgate is facing a headache at left-back, with Ben Chilwell and Kieran Trippier sidelined, and Luke Shaw struggling for fitness.
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who is included in Southgate’s squad, has played left-back before but is enjoying a fine season on the wing.
