England are set for an 'extra lift' ahead of the Women's Euros opener at Old Trafford on Wednesday according to former Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley.
Bardsley spent eight years at the Blues before retiring at the end of the 2021/22 WSL season. During that time, Bardsley earned 81 caps for the Lionesses and became England's first choice for much of her career.
Speaking to City's official website, Bardsley believes that England have a great chance of reaching the latter stages of the tournament. Sarina Wiegman's team are 14 matches unbeaten after a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Switzerland on Thursday.

Looking ahead to Euros, Bardsley said: "To be honest, I think England have a really great shot. Obviously, being the host nation, you get a bit of an extra buzz and lift, being in front of your home fans.
"My money is going to be on England to make the Final – it would be wrong of me to say anything else." The 37-year-old is also hopeful that the home tournament will work as a catalyst for the women's game.
"It’s really exciting. Ticket sales are flying out," she added. "The fact Old Trafford and Wembley sold out so quickly is great. We want this to be a stepping stone for future European Championships.
"We want to continue to raise the bar. It’s a great opportunity to see great teams.
"There are games at the Academy Stadium and England will be touring the country, playing in some amazing parts of the country and some amazing grounds." England start their campaign at Old Trafford on Wednesday against Austria in an 8pm kick-off.
