England rugby union international Ben Earl has opened up on his passion for rugby league, stating he would be keen to make the switch.
The back-rower has earned 12 caps for England since making his debut under Eddie Jones in 2020 and he is carving out a strong Premiership career with Saracens, who sit second the table at present.
However, Earl admits he has a strong interest in the 13-man code and the NRL and as such, he would love to be able to test himself in the sport
The 24-year-old had the chance to train with Leeds Rhinos recently and although he couldn’t make it up to West Yorkshire at the time due to the pandemic, he remains curious about a code switch.
“At some point my career I would love to give it a try, if the opportunity arose,” Earl said, as per RugbyPass.
“There was actually an opportunity for me to do some training with Leeds Rhinos this summer just gone. It just didn’t work out. They just had a cup final and rugby league was hit really badly with Covid, right in the middle of their season.
“At one point I was going to go up there for a week and half to see if I enjoyed it. I love watching it and I’d like to think that I’d be alright playing it.”
He added: “It’s something that I’m interested in, if the opportunity ever arose, I’d give it a go.
“As long as I’m here and enjoying it, I don’t think I will.
“I’m always up early watching the rugby league in Australia when it’s on.”
