Pressure is building on Rishi Sunak to unveil new plans to help millions of struggling households cope with the continued financial squeeze caused by the deepening cost of living crisis.
The Chancellor will deliver his Spring Statement on Wednesday lunchtime and it is hoped he will announce further measures to mitigate the impact of the 54% hike to energy bills coming in April.
However, Citizens Advice has warned that a further £145-a-month hike to energy costs has been predicted for October, which could mean that one in four UK adults will be unable to afford their gas or electricity bills.
