Energy advocates are expressing concerns over Vice President Kamala Harris' decision to hire a top campaign advisor with ties to a controversial environmental group advocating for the ban of gas stoves. O.H. Skinner, executive director of the nonprofit Alliance for Consumers, criticized this move, stating that it aligns with a pattern of targeting consumers and their household items by the left.
Skinner highlighted a series of regulations and mandates under the Biden-Harris administration, including 'green' regulations on appliances like dishwashers and washing machines, EV mandates, and proposed bans on gas stoves. He warned that such policies could limit consumer choice, increase costs, and potentially lead to lower-quality products.
Conservatives have also raised objections to Harris' hiring of Camila Thorndike, who previously worked for Rewiring America, a climate activist group known for its advocacy to ban gas stoves. Thorndike served as the campaign's climate engagement director and had a history with Rewiring America before joining the campaign.
Rewiring America gained attention in 2022 for its efforts to eliminate gas stoves but operates without filing federal tax forms as it is supported by a nonprofit within the dark money network managed by Arabella Advisors based in Washington, D.C.
