Lanarkshire communities are being thanked for their tremendous support towards an annual appeal held by Marie Curie as it made a welcome return after two years.
The end-of-life charity ran its Great Daffodil Appeal throughout March, and received thousands of pounds in generous donations from the people of both North and South Lanarkshire.
Collections held in Hamilton, East Kilbride, Lanark and Larkhall raised over £13,000, while those in Airdrie, Bellshill, Motherwell and Wishaw added another £4000 to the total.
All funds raised through the appeal, which asks people to donate and wear one of the charity’s iconic daffodil pins, help fund vital care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families.
Due to the COVID pandemic, the appeal collections in the previous two years had to be cancelled, but Lanarkshire residents then dug deep this year on their return.
To mark the launch of this year’s appeal, Marie Curie created a daffodil artwork made of 4129 LED tea lights – representing the number of people the charity looked after across its nine hospices and in private homes per month last year.
Angela McCormack from the charity told Lanarkshire LIve : “We were forced to cancel our public collections for the past two years so we are even more grateful for the amazing support from shoppers, members of the public and volunteers across Lanarkshire this year.
"Their generosity means we raised a fantastic amount for this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal.
"Too many people don’t get the care and support they need at the end of their lives, but together we can change that.”
