Emotional appeal to find missing Barry McCullagh two weeks after Paisley disappearance

The family of missing Barry McCullagh yesterday issued an emotional plea for him to come home.

Today marks two weeks since the 40-year-old dad-of-two was last seen on Corsebar Road near the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, his family said: “Barry, if you can see this message, please, please come home.

“You are not in any trouble.

“Just get a taxi home from wherever you are and we will pay the fare when you get here.

“We just want you home safe and well – we love you loads.

“We would appeal to anyone who may know of Barry’s whereabouts to please contact police.”

Barry, who is from Castlemilk, Glasgow, is described as 5ft 9in tall and of medium build with short, black hair.

When last seen, he was wearing black and navy jogging trousers, a black jacket, and grey and white trainers.

Police issued a CCTV image of Barry dressed in these clothes near the hospital.

So far, police searches have involved sniffer dogs searching the grounds around the hospital and homeowners have been asked to check their gardens and outbuildings for signs of Barry, who it is said was suffering from seizures for a year-and-a-half before being admitted to the RAH.

It is thought that he had been permitted to go outside for a smoke at the time of his disappearance.

Barry’s family have conducted their own searches around Paisley.

Stacey McCullagh, her sister April and extended family – who all live in Castlemilk – have been travelling to Paisley day and night to search for Barry.

The family are focusing their search on the woodlands and locations in the immediate area.

Last week, they put out a call on Facebook for volunteers to help with searches on Thursday, October 13 and Saturday, October 15.

Chief Inspector Damian Kane, area commander for Renfrewshire, said: “Almost two weeks have passed since Barry was last seen and his family remain extremely concerned about him.

“From our enquiries, we know the last sighting of Barry was around 5.20pm on Wednesday, October 5 near to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, on Corsebar Road.

“If you were in the area at the time, please think back, did you notice anyone matching his description?

“If anyone has seen Barry, or has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact police as a matter of urgency.

“We do not believe Barry will have travelled far and would again urge people who live in the area to check outbuildings and sheds.”

Anyone with any information on Barry’s whereabouts is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 3910 of 5 October, 2022.
