Emmerdale star remembers previous scenes that predicted shock affair as she reveals fallout

Emmerdale's Wendy Posner is set for a passionate week as the actress who plays her opens up about the consequences facing her character. Susan Cookson has given viewers a preview into the fallout that will take place after she gives into temptation and gets passionate with colleague Liam Cavanagh in episodes set to air in the next few days.

It happens after Wendy seeks comfort in Liam after they both get drunk and one thing leads to another, and they end up sleeping together. But that will leave fans wondering what that means for Wendy's relationship with Bob Hope.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Susan revealed the pair's dalliance may have always been on the cards, following Liam's split from wife Leyla Harding. Susan was thinking back to scenes in the past that have shown the two sharing a bond over their similar heartbreaks, something that could bring even the furthest apart of strangers together.

Viewers will know that they have both experienced the loss of a child, and the fact that Liam had Wendy's back when he found out that she's not qualified as a nurse in her own name - she's registered under a different name to hers - which he's kept quiet.

Susan added: "They're work colleagues, they get on, there's a mutual respect as colleagues but I realised the other day, there is a little bit more to Wendy and Liam.

"He knows about her past with the husband and the drug problem and she went to prison for a year because of her husband.

"There always seems to be confusion with the public that Wendy isn't a qualified nurse but she is, but she qualified under a different name and it was when Russ turned up and she tried to do right thing and hand her notice in, and she told Liam and he said her secret was safe with him. So I think there is a respect between the two of them and an understanding."

Jonny McPherson, who plays Jonny, added: "And [there's] a little bit of intimacy I suppose in harbouring a secret."

Susan then went on: "She feels terrible about it because she does love Bob. You can't not love Bob so she is devastated about that, and basically she tells Liam this has to stop, it was a moment of madness and great fun, but she is in a deep and meaningful relationship with Bob so it has to stop, which Liam doesn't want it to."

The explosive storyline comes on the back of a hot run of episodes this week as several huge soap secrets are being revealed.

Viewers will see Chloe Harris finally confess the father of her newborn baby boy Reuben, as the tot undergoes a scary health ordeal. Meanwhile, Caleb Milligan 's mystery associate Adrian will arrive in the Dales to help him plot against Kim, where viewers can finally find out his real identity.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
