ITV soap Emmerdale marks a landmark anniversary this year and celebrations are already underway in the village. The team behind the hit long-running drama have been keeping the 50th anniversary plans under wraps, but Emmerdale's executive producer has teased how they're hoping to have viewers "gripped" with their upcoming storylines.
The Yorkshire Dales soap, originally titled 'Emmerdale Farm' was created by Kevin Laffan and was first broadcast in October 1972. This week, Emmerdale have released a picture featuring some members of the cast and crew alongside a huge cake of the show's iconic Woolpack pub - marking the start of their celebrations for 50 years on our television screens in October 2022.
Executive producer Jane Hudson has said it's an "honour" to be in her role "at such an exciting time" in the soap's history. “Emmerdale celebrating 50 years is a huge achievement," Jane explained: "And to be the executive producer at such an exciting time is an honour. For five decades, Emmerdale has kept its audience entertained with incredible storylines and memorable characters.
Teasing what Emmerdale fans could expect in episodes set to air during the soap's anniversary month, Jane promised storylines which will have viewers in tears, laughing out loud and "epic stunts". "We want to make sure our 50th birthday month is a treat for all our loyal viewers and has them gripped to the edge of their seats as the stories unfold," Jane added.
"We are very proud to be a jewel in Yorkshire's crown and want to make sure we celebrate our wonderful village and everyone who lives there," She continued: "Across the month you will see stories which have you in tears, make you laugh out loud and of course, amaze you with some of the most epic stunts you will have ever seen.
"The Emmerdale team is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to creating drama as its very best, and never before has this been more true.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm.
