Emmerdale fans think that there is "more than meets the eye" about Arthur 's school crush-turned-bully, Marshall. In recent episodes, the pair had been spending more and more time together, leading viewers to think that a romance could be on the cards.
But, in tonight's episode, Marshall publicly humiliated Arthur, by asking him out on a date and then revealing that it was all part of a nasty bet. As the pair looked about to share a kiss, some of the boys from school could be heard laughing and Arthur looked up to see he and Marshall were being filmed on mobile phones.
When one of the boys told Marshall that he "can't believe [he] did that", it became clear to Arthur that he was being bullied. One of the boys said to Marshall: "How did you not [sick noise]?"

Marshall then said that he "nearly did" [throw up] and Arthur looked devastated, as a tenner was flung Marshall's way by one of the boys, telling him that he had "earnt that". Emmerdale fans were left furious at the way that Arthur's coming out storyline had been handled, but some believe that this is just the beginning of another similar story.
With Arthur and Marshall having seemingly shared such an easy connection up until this point, some viewers wonder if Marshall is actually gay himself - and just bullying Arthur so that their peers do not suspect he is gay, too.

But I have a feeling he is Gay also but too afraid to come out, cause his like the popular kid at school, and has more to lose than Arthur, as in popularity."
And @ASG10000 said: "Don't write Marshall off yet Arthur!" Believing that there could yet be a real romance in store for the pair.
