Emmerdale fans compare 'pointless dead body plot' to Fawlty Towers as B&B reopens

Emmerdale fans were left befuddled by a bizarre turn of events as the village B&B reopened.

One viewer accused the soap of veering towards legendary hotel sitcom Fawlty Towers, as Bernice Blackstock and Bob Hope tried to cover up the dead body of a harpist, only for the harpist to be very much alive and well.

Bernice panicked after sleeping with the musician, called Tim, and then believing he was dead, with herself and Bob fearing disaster for their grand opening.

The pair attempted to keep it a secret, but a hotshot hotel reviewer arrived, asking for a tour of all the rooms.

As the reviewer and photographer were about to enter, Bernice and Bernard desperately pretended it was haunted.

She said, describing the harpist: “We don’t really know for sure but it’s definitely a man with an incredibly pale face and he always wears a white suit.”

It was at that point that the door swung open to reveal Tim standing in the room, explaining that he took a sleeping pill and overslept.

The amusing plot didn't impress some viewers, with one person saying on Twitter: "Why the hell was that ‘dead harpist’ story included? Totally pointless."

Another jokingly wrote: "That's a waste of 15 minutes of ma life!

"Am gonna have to go kill the Harpist maself(for the coppers in real life this is a joke) bloody annoying now."

A third penned: "FGS, false alarm…the harpist is not dead…"

However, some saw the funny side, describing the scenes as "hilarious."

Another likened it to John Cleese's sitcom Fawlty Towers, about a hapless and frustrated hotel manager, saying: "This is turning very Basil Fawlty and Fawlty Towers tonight, with trying to hide what they believe is the “dead” body of the harpist. More Emmerdale scenes Producers featuring Bob and Bernice please."

Elsewhere in the episode, fans were left wondering whether there is more to Cathy Hope’s health diagnosis, following scenes surrounding the opening of dad Bob's B&B.

Bob has been repeatedly butting heads with his daughter Cathy- culminating in an angry outburst from the teenager.

Cathy was furious at Bob’s decision to exclude her from the event and the situation then went from bad to worse when she knocked over the cake Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) had baked for the special occasion .”

Later on, Cathy broke down in tears as her dad shouted: “I am on red alert most of the time. Scared of what's going to upset you or make you lose your temper next. And you know, you can't hide behind your periods for everything.”

Bob later tried to make amends, but Cathy shouted at him to leave her alone.

After the emotionally trying scenes, Emmerdale viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on Cathy's character arc, with many speculating it may be more than heavy periods behind her mood swings.

Taking to Twitter, one shared: “I wonder if there's something more than just heavy periods behind Cathy's ridiculous behaviour.”
