Emmerdale and The Bodyguard star Ayden Callaghan slams 'disgusting' behaviour as riot police storm musical

A former Emmerdale actor and star of hit musical The Bodyguard has slammed the "disgusting behaviour" of audience members who "tried to sing over the cast" resulting in "mini riots" and scenes of utter chaos.

On Good Friday, a performance of the musical at the Palace Theatre in Manchester had to be called to a halt early after audience members sang over the cast. Prior to the show, the public had been asked not to sign during performances, with signs installed around the auditorium.

However, despite a handful of initial evictions, there were a group of people who continued to sing and it resulted in the police being called. The Manchester Evening News reports that there were "mini riots" with "fights" breaking out among those watching.

The show had to be stopped 10 minutes early during the big finale and rendition of 'I Will Always Love You', with audience members told to leave the theatre. The chaos has caused uproar and it triggered cast member Ayden Callaghan to have his say.

Ayden, who played Miles De Souza on Emmerdale and also appeared in Hollyoaks, plays bodyguard Frank Farmer in the musical and he was left angry at the "disgusting behaviour" on show.

He tweeted: "Theatre pulled the show at the end tonight because of disgusting behaviour. We wanted to carry on but it had become a major incident. I’m really sorry to what was 99.9% a brilliant audience that a few badly behaved individuals ruined it."

Speaking out on the decision to ask audience members not to sing during performances, he tweeted earlier yesterday: "It’s not karaoke, we want people to enjoy themselves, and enjoy the performances they have paid to see.

"You don’t expect to go and have a kick about at Anfield when watching or a few rallies at Wimbledon as well as spectating. Respect the performers and fellow audience. Simple."

Video footage from last night's showing appears to show two women being dragged out of the musical by security staff. The audience can be heard applauding as they are removed. The Palace Theatre has been approached for comment.
