Emmerdale airs emotional exit as character leaves village for good in sad scenes

Emmerdale aired an emotional exit for Cathy Hope tonight, as she headed to the Lakes to live with her brother.

The teenager has been struggling with health issues as of late, with her periods causing a lot of trouble for her. She has been struggling to study and at one point, her mood swings were so fluctuating that she smashed up her brother's guitar.

She has been given a diagnosis now but is still learning to live with the changes and has decided to head to see her brother Scott so she can let Heath focus on his important exams and give herself time away from the village.

Cathy gathered her friends together including her brother Heath to tell them all she was going, but she admitted she’d really miss them. Arthur, Marshall and April all seemed devastated by her decision, but knowing it was what was best for her, they didn’t stop her and instead wished her the best of luck as they promised to all keep in touch.

Later, her family gathered around the car, loading it up as Bob planned to drive her up to the Lake District to spend time with Scott.

As she came out of the house, she told them all: “You can tell everyone that I’m going, the village is safe!” before she broke down in tears. There were emotions all round as they all bid her goodbye and told her to take care. Bernice, meanwhile, had some advice for her, telling her that if she was going to cry, she should always wear waterproof mascara.

Her brother Heath bid his goodbye, saying he’d “miss her loads” whilst Brenda was the most emotional, tearing up as they hugged one another. Bob gave her one more kiss before she waved goodbye to her family and they headed in the direction of the Lakes.

At the end of last year, the soap's executive producer Jane Hudson teased there would be a huge story ahead for Cathy.

"A lot of the youngsters have big stories coming up. You’ll see a really big story for Cathy, Bob's daughter, which is really emotional. It's her first big story and a challenging one, and I think one a lot of parents will connect with and one I haven't seen a soap do before so Cathy has a big story coming up," Jane shared of what was to come on the soap.
