Emma Raducanu handed a wildcard for Wimbledon women's singles

Emma Raducanu was among the first recipients of a wildcard for the Wimbledon singles draw on Wednesday.

There are eight wildcards available for the men’s and the women’s singles of which seven have been announced for each with a further one in each case to be unveiled in due course.

Raducanu is among four British women to receive one along with Heather Watson, Fran Jones and Yuriko Miyazaki.

The former US Open champion is ranked 165th in the world and thereby not eligible for automatic qualification in the draw. But she has been rewarded by the All England Club as a British player and off the back of her New York success in 2021 as well as her run to the fourth round at Wimbledon that year.

Raducanu lost out in the semi-finals of the recent Nottingham Open but has sounded confident about her form and fitness heading into her home grand slam having recovered in 2024 following triple surgery on both her wrists and an ankle last season.

The other high-profile recipients are former world No1s and grand slam champions Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, a former Wimbledon winner, and Caroline Wozniacki.

On the men’s side, the seven wildcard recipients are all British: Liam Broady, Jan Choinski, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Billy Harris, Paul Jubb and Henry Searle.
