Dubai’s Emirates airline has implemented a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies on its planes in response to recent security concerns. This decision follows a series of attacks involving such devices carried out by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
In a statement posted on its website, Emirates announced that passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in both checked and cabin baggage. The airline's move aims to enhance safety measures and prevent any potential threats posed by these communication devices.
The ban comes in the wake of incidents where pagers exploded simultaneously in Lebanon, followed by walkie-talkies detonating in a similar manner. Lebanese authorities attributed these attacks to Israel, further escalating tensions in the region.
Emirates, being the largest airline in the Middle East, has also extended flight cancellations to and from Beirut, Lebanon's capital, until at least October 15. This precautionary measure underscores the airline's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its passengers and crew.
