“Bring it on!” Those were the words of Frank Lampard in the aftermath of Everton’s dramatic comeback against Crystal Palace.
His message was more of a rallying cry than a challenge but, as he has done so well in recent weeks, he captured the mood perfectly. It was a response to anyone with an urge to pour scorn on the scenes following a famous victory for the Blues, to anyone who wanted to deride the unity and passion on display.
There were lots who were keen to do so. Journalists, pundits and rival supporters have all taken aim at Everton since Thursday night.
