A large section of the Chelsea fanbase have slammed Mason Mount for his 'embarrassing' farewell message on social media. The 24-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a transfer to Manchester United for a while, and now his move to Old Trafford has all but been confirmed.
"Given the speculation over the last six months this may not come as a surprise to you, but it doesn't make it any easier to tell you I have made the decision to leave Chelsea," said the Cobham graduate. "I thought you deserved more than just a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I have been for all of your support over the last 18 years.
"I know some of you won't be happy with my decision but it's what is right for me at this moment in my career. I joined Chelsea when I was six-years-old and we have been through a lot together, winning the Youth Cup, my Player of the Year awards, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup and of course the unforgettable night when we won the Champions League... wish you all the best."
Lots of Chelsea fans have been left disappointed with Mount's video, claiming that it's 'embarrassing' and 'shameless'. So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at some of the reaction to the midfielder's farewell message.
With a laughing face emoji, @CarefreeLewisG tweeted: "'I feel you deserve more than a written statement' Reads of a written statement instead, Mason Mount everyone."
@DerSarrismo tweeted: "So unbelievably shameless."

@banj_CFC tweeted: "That’s embarrassing that goodbye message."
@jidekoma tweeted: "The boy who had a dream to be greedy."
One Chelsea fan, @UberChelseaFC_, pointed out that Mount may have pre-recorded the message a couple of weeks ago after noticing the colour of his hair. The Cobham graduate bleached his hair blonde earlier this summer, but he was recently pictured at United's training ground with brown hair.
@ForeverBlue_07 tweeted: "His PR team tried their absolute best till the last moment to make everyone believe he wanted to stay."
@fionn_cfc tweeted: "Most pathetic good bye ever."
football.london understands that the Blues were once close to reaching an agreement with Mount over a new deal but, following his return from the World Cup in December, an offer was no longer on the table. In the new year, Chelsea reopened talks with the England international, though he didn't want to sign a one-year extension.
Since then, it's believed that Mount never received an improved proposal. After refusing to commit his long-term future to the west Londoners, the Blues reached an agreement with the Red Devils worth around £60million.
