A legal dispute has arisen between tech billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk and Philadelphia's progressive district attorney, Larry Krasner, over a daily $1 million giveaway organized by Musk's pro-Trump super PAC. Musk's lawyers have accused Krasner of creating a 'phony emergency' to disrupt the sweepstakes, which has been ongoing for two weeks amidst legal challenges.
In a court filing, Musk's legal team argued that Krasner's actions are an attempt to stifle political speech protected by federal election law and the First Amendment. The case has now moved to federal court after Musk requested the transfer from state court, where Krasner initially filed the lawsuit.
The legal battle has caused a delay in a scheduled hearing in Pennsylvania state court, where Krasner sought an immediate halt to Musk's giveaway. With Election Day approaching, Musk's super PAC, America PAC, continues to award $1 million daily to registered voters in swing states who support the constitution.
Musk, who publicly endorsed Trump in July, has contributed over $118 million to the super PAC. The prolonged legal proceedings have allowed Musk to benefit from the ongoing sweepstakes, despite Krasner's efforts to shut it down.
