Ellie Goulding has addressed long-standing rumours that she cheated on Ed Sheeran with Niall Horan and said that not only are they not true, but the allegations caused her “a lot of trauma”.
The Starry Eyed hit-maker, 36, and Sheeran, 32, were reported to be an item back in 2013 after they were pictured holding hands with one another at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Shortly after, it was claimed that she had been unfaithful with former One Direction singer Niall Horan.
Adding fuel to the fire was Sheeran’s 2014 single, Don’t, which included the lyrics: “I never saw him as a threat (Get lost), until you disappeared with him to have sex, of course.”
While all involved remained quiet on the subject, Goulding decided that she was done with staying quiet after the rumours recently resurfaced online.
Taking to TikTok, she finally weighed-in, declaring them “False!!!!”
Now, she has addressed her decision to spill the beans on social media, admitting she might have been under the influence of alcohol when she shared the post.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said: “I think I was really drunk when I wrote that, yeah.
“You know, completely honestly, it caused me a huge amount of... Stress is not the word – it caused me a lot of trauma, actually”.
Although she is now happily married to Caspar Jopling, with whom she shares a son, Goulding went on to tell the publication that she was envious of the fact her friends were able to do whatever they wanted in their 20s, such as having “having flings and one-night stands” without repercussions, while she was made to “feel like a terrible person”.
Confusingly, Goulding told ELLE magazine in 2015 that while she had gone on ”a few dates” with Horan, she and Sheeran had never been romantically involved, saying: “I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing,”
