Ellie Goulding marks her return to music tomorrow [Friday] with her first new single and music video after taking time out to start a family.
But the singer, 35, has vowed to steer away from her usual "introspective" music, to "make music for people to dance to and forget about everything" over the past few pandemic-hit years.
Ellie - who wed Casper Jopling in 2019, and welcomed their one-year-old son Arthur last April - is releasing a dance pop track co-produced with Adele ’s long time collaborator Greg Kurstin, titled Easy Lover. It features rapper Big Sean.
She says it is "about the age-old tale of being infatuated by someone cool and beautiful knowing that they will never quite feel the same".
"It’s about going back to the same dangerous person to feel alive when you know they have hurt people again and again before you," she continues.
Speaking last month, she said becoming a parent had changed her - and helped her songwriting.
"Motherhood has taken over everything, it’s influenced everything," she said. "I’ve managed to write a whole bunch of songs, actually it seems to have come even more naturally."
But she said she would not be penning songs about her personal life at the moment, adding: "I haven’t quite hit that point yet where I’m wanting to talk about this thing I have with my child, and this insane bond and connection, and with my husband."
