Electric car charging gets a jolt but more spark needed

Electric vehicle owners will be able to top up their rides for free in more locations after one of the country's biggest charging firms revealed plans to expand into Victoria.

Jolt Charge, which operates the largest fast-charging networks in Adelaide and Sydney, will install public fast-chargers in Melbourne's eastern suburbs over the next three months in a deal with Knox Council.

But the company's chief executive said all electric car-charging firms needed to dramatically increase their roll-out to give Australia a chance of meeting its 2030 climate target.
