Eight employees of a Florida Chick-fil-A were fired after a TikTok video of them dancing in their uniforms was viewed more than 7.5 million times, according to one of the former staffers.
In the video, the workers are seen performing a synchronized dance to a popular audio track inside the restaurant. Several employees shake their chests toward the camera, and at one point, a male staff member turns around to twerk.
Land(i)n, the username used on the platform by the employee who recorded and shared the footage, said in a subsequent post the workers were dismissed. He noted that the firings took place on a Sunday — the day the fast-food chain famously closes all its locations to allow workers to rest and attend religious services.
“Every single last one of us got fired,” Land(i)n said in the follow-up post.
He said he was surprised by the company’s decision, claiming the video was intended as a joke and that he had previously shared viral clips from the workplace without facing any disciplinary action.
“It wasn’t that serious,” Land(i)n said in his post.
The incident has caused a divide among people online regarding the boundaries of workplace conduct in the age of TikTok.
Some viewers see the firings as an overreach by management. Others have argued that the employees should have known better given Chick-fil-A’s public emphasis on conservative Christian values and professional standards.
The company’s corporate purpose explicitly states a commitment “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us.”
Critics of the workers’ actions argued that performing provocative dance moves while in uniform constituted a clear violation of the professional standards expected by a company with such a specific public image.
The specific Florida location where the group worked has not been publicly identified.
Chick-fil-A’s corporate office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Independent.
