Edu identifies perfect Thomas Partey Arsenal replacement as bargain £25m summer chance emerges

Thomas Partey looks set to leave Arsenal this summer despite his key role in the Gunners' superb 2022/23 season. The signing of Jorginho in the January transfer window saw Partey's role in the latter stages dwindle, but Granit Xhaka's impending exit looked to confirm the Ghana international would at least stay for one more campaign amid Mikel Arteta's huge midfield rebuild.

However, Arsenal are open to a Partey departure with CBS Sports claiming that Saudi trio Al Nassr, Al Ahli and Al Khaleej are all keen on the 30-year-old. Serie A giants Juventus have also entered the race with Sky Sport Italia reporting Partey's entourage have reached an agreement with the Italian side regarding personal terms.

After signing him in 2020 for £45million, just three years later the Gunners could sanction a sale for a price between €18-20million (£15-17million), with Partey having two years left on his contract come the end of June. West Ham captain Declan Rice is seen as the obvious Partey replacement, given their similarities.

Edu and Arteta could now face a significant Rice task with Manchester City firmly in the summer battle for his signature. Rice is not the only option for Arsenal though, with Brighton star Moises Caicedo and Southampton's Romeo Lavia also considered as options, while Mohamed Kudus, Mason Mount, Gabri Veiga, Martin Zubimendi and Xavi Simons have been discussed.

Surprisingly, it looks as though Chelsea's Kai Havertz could be part of that midfield rebuild with Arteta expected to play the versatile German in an advanced eight role, despite the fact he played most of last season as a lone number nine.

A £65million deal has been agreed between the two London clubs with Havertz completing the first part of his medical this past weekend. As a more attacking engine room acquisition, there is a need to acquire more defensive options in the middle of the park and a superb chance has come to light.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo reported in April that Benfica's Florentino Luis was being eyed by Arsenal, but his staggering £105million release clause looked likely to quell any interest. However, Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed Benfica would be willing to start negotiations at just £25million.

This development could see Arsenal resume their interest, but they will face stiff competition for his signature with AC Milan. Sandro Tonali's imminent move to Newcastle and the injury to Ismael Bennacer means recruiting in midfield is a clear priority for Stefano Pioli.
