Arsenal have already completed a couple of deals this January despite new faces having not arrived at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have loaned out a few of their fringe players during the opening two-and-a-half weeks of the window.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Roma, whilst Pablo Mari and Sead Kolasinac also appear close to waving goodbye to the Emirates Stadium with switches to Udinese and Marseille respectively.
Whilst the transfers do not seem all that notable - or indeed pivotal in any of Arsenal's January incomings - the wages that the Gunners could potentially save might see them accumulate enough funds to make a move for one of their major targets.
According to Spotrac, Pablo Mari would have been scooping even more with £2.2million.
Meanwhile, Bosnian defender Kolasinac is set to earn slightly more between now and the end of the season with his six-month pay packet sitting at £2.6million.
Depending on how much Udinese and Marseille are set to pay, the Gunners could well be set to save just under £5million in wages between now and the end of the campaign.
That amount could see Arsenal be able to offer deals to the likes of Arthur Melo and Youri Tielemans, as Mikel Arteta attempts to bolster his midfield options.
Intriguingly, the pair’s wages could be covered by Arsenal’s outgoing transfers.
According to Sportrac, Tielemans scoops just £1.7million per year with current employers Leicester City and whilst it would be expected that the Belgian would demand considerably more should he move, his wages would easily be covered for the next few months.
The Gunners would also be able to cover the wages of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo should they wave goodbye to both Mari and Kolasinac.
football.london understands that Arsenal are hopeful of sealing the Brazilian’s services until the end of the campaign, with further reports suggesting that the north London club would be willing to match his wages in full.
As per salarysport, the former Barcelona man earns £6.5million per year in Turin, meaning that Arsenal would only have to pay £3.25million for his services.
Considering that the Gunners would be swapping both Mari and Kolasinac - both squad players - for Arthur and Tielemans, any potential deal would be a remarkable feat and would see Mikel Arteta’s current options far better after the window than they were before.
