Whenever the Cardinals and Cubs get together, you know something ridiculous will happen.
In a rivalry like this, you get every end of the spectrum. One night, someone could mash multiple homers. Another, someone might have an egregious base-running error in the worst possible spot at the worst possible time.
That’s precisely what happened to Edmundo Sosa as the Cards (-145 favorites) took on the Cubs on Saturday night. In a tight 3-3 ballgame at Wrigley Field, a ninth-inning hit by Nolan Gorman should’ve sent Sosa across home plate. It should’ve put the Cubs up against the wall.
There was just one problem: Sosa didn’t touch third base as he initially rounded toward home. Oh, no:
WOW!!!

Sosa’s look of exasperation and disbelief says it all. Thankfully for the shortstop, the Cardinals went on to win 7-4 in extras. Instead of dwelling on a game-losing, painful gaffe for a little while, Sosa and the Cards get to laugh about it.
