Edinburgh woman in disbelief as stranger tries to get into her car in broad daylight

An Edinburgh woman was left shocked after she witnessed a man try to open her car on Wednesday morning.

NHS worker Anna-Marie Walker woke on May 23 to notice a stranger hanging around the parked cars on her street in the Hawkhill area of the city.

At around 7.07am, they tried to open her car and it wasn't until she shouted at him, that he scarpered off.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Anna-Marie, 46, said: "I woke up and always have a look outside. That’s when I noticed him at the car. I was watching him from my bedroom window.

"When I realised what he was doing I shouted, 'What do you think you are doing?'.

"He looked up at me but did not say a word and just walked on.

"My husband went outside to see where he went but he was gone. He was heading in the direction of Alemoor. I posted on the community Facebook page for others to be vigilant."

She added: "To be honest this is the first time I have seen this and I have lived here for 20 years. Couldn’t believe it as I watched him try every handle on my husband's car door. No shame and in daylight!

"We are a close community in Hawkhill so look out for each other's property. Just shows how desperate these people are."
