Edinburgh weather: Sleet forecast this week amid plummeting temperatures

Temperatures are set to plunge below freezing this week in Edinburgh as the cold weather continues.

Monday will likely be the mildest day of the week, with highs of above 10 degrees Celsius expected around 8pm.

It will be an extremely wet day in the capital, however, with rain forecast across the entire afternoon and evening and into early Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will cool off very slightly, with temperatures averaging around 7C for much of the day.

BBC Weather expects it to be a slightly brighter day, however, with brief sunny intervals at around 9am and the chance of rainfall remaining below 20% until 8pm.

After this, light rain showers are predicted throughout the remainder of the night and into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will continue the trend of colder but brighter days, with BBC Weather expecting "sunny intervals and a fresh breeze" throughout the day.

Things will cool down considerably, however, and temperatures will eventually reach lows of 3C by 8pm.

Around this time, the weather service forecasts "sleet showers" from 8pm all the way through to 3am on Thursday morning.

Skies will clear up somewhat on Thursday, but the cold weather will likely worsen, with BBC Weather predicting lows of -2C.

It will be particularly chilly overnight, though Friday looks to warm up slightly ahead of a mild and wet weekend.
