Edinburgh venue crowned Scotland's 'unique cafe of the year' at national awards

Edinburgh business owners last night picked up prizes in Glasgow at this year's Scottish Cafe Awards.

On Monday night, over 200 of the country's cafe professionals gathered at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, to recognise and reward the best in the coffee industry.

The awards aim to celebrate Scotland's breadth of talent and entrepreneurial spirit as the efforts and dedication of the specialists who invest in ensuring their customers always receive high-quality of beverages, food and snacks and are voted for by the public.

With the awards being split into different Scottish regions to ensure the diverse range of businesses from across Scotland are recognised 'for providing coffees with artistic presentations and unique flavours', the capital saw winners in three different categories, including Scotland's Unique Cafe of the Year for 2022.

The Chihuahua dog cafe, which we've featured previously on Edinburgh Live, have shared a shot of their trophy on social media which they took home on the train from Glasgow last night.

The Frederick Street cafe is home to seven resident Chihuahuas called Lady Bee, Cleopatra, Elsa, Faery, Gatsby, Hepburn and Ama. Owner Tanya Salitura told Edinburgh Live in 2021 she wanted to open a dedicated Chihuahua café to share the love and support that her own dog, Ama, offered to her in times of need.

Elsewhere, congratulations go to the Gilmerton Bridge Cafe after it landed the Best of Edinburgh title, while Bakery of the Year was one by the capital's Archipelago Bakery.

A Spokesperson for the Scottish Cafe Awards 2022, said: “Although on our third year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite cafés. The cafe industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by introducing innovation in this industry.

“The awards also aimed to acknowledge everything that is coffee related and showcase that Scottish people are big coffee lovers. It was lovely to be part of this celebration and we would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements.”
