Edinburgh TV Festival announce first wave of guests including Scottish actor Brian Cox

The first wave of guest speakers for this year's in-person Edinburgh TV Festival have been announced, including Brian Cox, Richard Osman and Alice Oseman.

Organisers announced earlier in the year that the festival will return with an in-person event this year, running from August 24-26.

As well as the recent announcement of the Repair Shop bringing the magic of their barn to Edinburgh, the first wave of guest speakers, including famous actors, authors and TV presenters has been released.

Other speakers for the event include Kit Connor, Rose Matafeo, Dolly Alderton and the stars of Ghosts.

One of the most notable names on the list of Succession actor, Brian Cox. The multi-award winning actor is set to discuss his career with an in-depth interview which will give insight into the Scot's thoughts on US vs UK drama, identify and his working-class roots.

Guests will also get to hear Cox's thoughts on playing the incredibly popular Succession character, Logan Roy.

Eastenders actress, Rose Ayling-Ellis has also been announced as the Alternative MacTaggart speaker, as she continues to win the hearts of viewers across the nation for accurately portraying how it is to be a member of the deaf community.

Comedian, writer and actor, and creator of the critically acclaimed Starstruck, Rose Matafeo, will be in conversation with journalist, author and screenwriter, Dolly Alderton, whose 'Everything I Know About Love' hits the BBC this week.

In a frank and funny peer-to-peer conversation, Rose and Dolly will discuss the creative process of bringing their work to the small screen and share their experiences of life in TV and beyond.

The Masterclass thread will feature a popular modern classic, a Gen Z phenomenon and Disney+’s first UK drama original. Ghosts, the BBC’s hugely popular comedy from the team behind Horrible Histories and Yonderland, has entertained audiences for three seasons – and a fourth having recently completed filming – with its most unusual of house-share sitcom premises.

Stewart Clarke, Creative Director, Edinburgh TV Festival, said: "As we head back to Edinburgh, we are delighted to reveal some of the amazing talent and industry speakers who will be in town. Rose Ayling-Ellis will deliver a landmark Alternative MacTaggart, we have the casts of some of TV’s most exciting and loved shows, and of course, the inimitable Brian Cox, as well as sessions discussing urgent industry matters. And that is just the start, with lots more to come."

The festival will return to its home at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre this year, with YouTube and Screen Scotland providing coverage.

More guests speakers are expected to be announced in due course, with passes available to purchase now on their website.
