Edinburgh taxi driver slams driver toilets as 'disgusting' at capital airport

An Edinburgh taxi driver has hit out at the state of the toilets at the capital’s airport and says that there was no running water and “disgusting toilets.”

The driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, captured the video and sent it to Edinburgh Live earlier this week.

In the footage, the toilets at feeder rank two, which the drivers of taxis and private hire cars have to use when waiting to collect a fare, were left in a horrific state.

The video shows unclean toilets with faecal matter sprayed all across them as well as overflowing bins and dirty urinals.

They said: “These are the toilets in the feeder rank two at the airport that taxis and private hire cars have to use when waiting for a fare. There is no running water, soap or anything. It is disgusting.

“The airport are responsible for them and they have been reported to both City and Capital who tell us they will pass it on to the airport so that something gets done. It is not fit for purpose and a health and hygiene hazard.

“As well as this, the floor is also broken at the entrance. As a cabbie of six years, who has travelled all over, these are by far the most disgusting toilets I have ever seen.

The rank is situated at the bottom of the airport over the tramlines opposite the free drop off area and short stay car park and it is understood that drivers are unhappy with the situation.

The airport states that the issue is related to them having to secure a new cleaning supplier and they say that they have told drivers to try to use alternative toilets.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh airport said: “We have advised companies to inform drivers not to use these toilets while we work to secure another cleaning supplier. We again ask for their cooperation while we do so.

“These toilets were installed in agreement with the taxi providers and we previously arranged for the facility to undergo a deep clean, however it is incumbent on us all to ensure they are kept in an acceptable condition.”
